Easy hiking at Mt.HAKODATE
Mt.HAKODATE

Mount Hakodate is a popular tourist destination for its world-famous night view, but it is also good for day-time hiking. At 334 meters above sea level, it takes about one hour to reach the summit by the shortest trail (Tsutsujiyama trail). The trail is mainly dirt and gravel, but is a gentle slope, and on sunny days between spring and fall, sneakers are not a problem.

It is rich with nature with approximately 600 species of plants and 150 species of birds inhabiting the area. There are also remains of 19th century military fortress, as well as cultural relics such as the 33 Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) statues along the trail, which dates back to the late Edo period (late 19th century).

Hotspring in the sea
Mizunashi kaihin onsen

Mizunashi Kaihin Onsen is an open-air onsen on the shore of Pacific Ocean.  Bathing hours are during low tide only.  During high tide the onsen sinks under ocean water.  Please check the low tide hours in advance.  With a simple stone structure with no roof or walls, you can fully enjoy Hokkaido’s great outdoors.  There are changing rooms for both men and women, so put on your bathing suit and soak in the onsen.

Due to its location, we recommend that you take a car.  It is 51 km from JR Hakodate station, approximately 1hour and 15 minutes drive.  There are only few bus services available, which takes about 2 hours including one transfer, and then you will have to walk about one hour from the bus stop.
